WARN Industries Inc. informed Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and BRP US Inc. (“BRP“), that the WARN* winches equipped with a "8 post contactor" installed on certain 2004 and 2005 XT Bombardier ATV models or sold as accessories may be defective and that they were conducting a safety recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, as specified in the attached Safety Recall Letter.
What is the potential problem?
BRP was informed by WARN that they received one confirmed report of an 8 post contactor failure that resulted in excessive heat within the contactor. Under rare circumstances, the contactor could potentially create a fire hazard. BRP is warning you that if this occurs, it could lead to severe injury or even death.
There are two possible situations:
SITUATION A) Factory installed WARN winches, what will BRP do?
Based on the communications made by WARN Industries Inc., BRP posted this notice and attached Safety Recall letter on its public web site (www.can-am.brp.com) and sent the Safety Recall letter to all known registered owners of the potentially affected vehicles. This letter explains the potential situation. It urges the owner to proceed immediately with one of these three options to prevent excessive heat within the contactor:
Option 1: Get the winch contactor replaced by an authorized BRP dealer.
Option 2: If parts are not available, get the winch contactor disconnected by an authorized BRP dealer. Your dealer will re-contact you to update your winch kit as soon as replacement parts are available.
Option 3: If you cannot get the winch contactor immediately replaced, disconnected or if you do not need to use your vehicle before parts are available, disconnect the vehicle battery as described in the vehicle Operator's Guide.
This work will be performed at no charge to customers.
SITUATION B) WARN winches sold as accessories, what will WARN Industries Inc. do?WARN Industry Inc. already posted and sent instructions to dealers; parts ordering, repair and warranty are done through WARN. Owners must contact an authorized WARN dealer to get the winch contactor replaced.
Note: There might be some parts delivery delay due to the sudden great demand from most ATV manufacturers.
