Powerful 71-hp Rotax V-twin engine. The liquid-cooled, single overhead cam power plant has four valves per cylinder, a 46-mm throttle body and two VDO Siemens‡ fuel injectors. The EFI system keeps the 800R engine's performance at its peak and a progressive throttle ensures power is manageable whether in precise rock crawling or opening it up on the straights.

The Tri-Mode DPS™ features three rider-selectable modes (MIN, MED and MAX) of steering depending on rider preference. The system is designed to offer less assist at high speed and more assist at low speed. This technology also includes a Direct Link setup that uses advanced magnetic field sensors for faster response to steering input than competitive technology, which then minimizes steering lag. Less kickback and more trail feedback is supplied to the operator because of the 50:1 final gear ratio, which is the largest in the industry. A high-capacity 50-amp motor means the DPS™ will never fade with heavy use and all DPS™-equipped models also come with the Visco-Lok‡ QE.
Raised passenger floorboards for added comfort.
The industry's first air-controlled suspension. Via an onboard compressor, the system adjusts the rear high-pressure gas FOX‡ racing Shox-built shocks to six rider-selectable preload levels. This allows the rear suspension performance and stiffness to be adjusted on-the-fly depending on terrain or vehicle load. It also comes with a hose that can be used to fill tyres or other items while out on the trail.

Removable rugged full-color GPS unit can be used for driving, hiking, walking or boating. The unit is also geocaching-ready and comes with an 8-hour rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Use the Micro SD‡ slot to expand the memory of the unit or load new maps. For the car, the nüvi 500 features turn-by-turn directions for easy navigation.
These 26 in. (660 mm), 3-ply tyres feature a tread pattern that is aggressive enough to tackle the toughest terrain, yet provide a smooth ride in a lightweight package.

The updates lead to lower pivot points providing geometric squatting for improved traction and the transfer of power to the ground.
One does not have to ride with the passenger seat in place 100 % of the time. The passenger seat can be removed and replaced with a rack-extension/ totable cargo box in just seconds – all without tools. Comes standard on all Outlander MAX.
