The DS 450 X xc model’s 7.5-inch (101 mm) ride height — assuming a 175-pound rider with gear — reduces the center of gravity for improved cornering capabilities.
The front end of the DS 450 X xc comes with a shim-style caster adjustment. Each shim represents one-degree of adjustment with 3 degrees to 10 degrees of caster adjustment. This allows the racer to completely "dial in" the DS 450 X xc for his or her preference.
Aluminum KYB HPG C40 piggyback rear shock with dual-speed compression, rebound and preload adjustments and 10.5 in. (267 mm) of travel
Inverted twin-piston front brake calipers offer impressive stopping power because of the larger brake discs (182 mm). By putting the caliper "inside" a peripheral brake disc, the diameter can be increased as close as possible to the inside of the wheel. This set-up allows for larger brake discs and improved stopping power and feel. Plus, the peripheral disc brake leaves room inside to push the lower A-arm ball-joint deep inside the wheel.
The spindle acts as a lever on the steering ball joints. The longer the lever, the more the kickback is transmitted to the steering when the wheel hits an obstacle. The DS 450 short spindle lever reduces negative steering feedback, providing a more confidence-inspiring ride.
Mounted inside front rotors, the DS 450’s exclusive inverted dual-piston calipers allow for a unique knuckle / spindle / A-arm design. Computer-designed, wave-type front-and-rear rotors offer exceptional cooling and enhance all-around handling.

The Can-Am DS X xc offers the perfect 46-inch (1168 mm) width and components (forged aluminum upper and lower A-arms) to turn any wannabe into a woods-racing hero.
Many of top motocross pros are choosing to race with a rear width that is slightly narrower than the front-end width. This is possible with the DS 450 X mx Chromoly 4140 adjustable-width hollow axle. Adjustment from 46 (1,168 mm) to 50 inches (1,270 mm) is possible with 0.5-inch (13 mm) spacers.
The DS 450 X xc features ITP Holeshot GNCC front tires mounted on black, aluminum ITP T-9 wheels with beadlock rings. The taller lugs of the Holeshot GNCC provide superior traction in demanding race conditions.
The DS 450 features an innovative, no-weld ALTEC™ aluminum frame and a hearty Rotax® engine for the industry’s best power-to-weight ratio of any 450-class sport ATV. Combined those features with other weight-saving innovations (hollow rear axle, aluminum parts) and mass centralization engineering to reduce unsprung weight and the DS 450 is unmatched in its class.

A maximum strength, no-weld, all-aluminum frame that uses a twin pyramidal structure. Major components are firmly secured with aluminum fasteners called lock-bolts. The frame is stronger yet much lighter than a traditional ladder frame.
The DS 450 is equipped with a 449 cc 4-stroke EFI Rotax engine, offers the largest bore (97 mm) and the largest intake valves (38 mm) from the DOHC 4-valve head with 97 x 60.8 mm bore and stroke. The EFI uses the largest throttle body (46 mm), 16-bit CPU with 32-MHz clock speed and an almost straight intake path. With a concept referred to as ''Durchzugskraft'' or flow dynamics optimization, the engine breathes easily and can produce more power. The DS 450 delivers the best power-to-weight ratio.
Straight from the factory, the DS 450 X xc comes complete with lightweight aluminum nerf bars with aluminum heel guards. If one desires, the nerf bars and heel guards can be removed with ease.
A +1-inch (25 mm) extra-strength steering stem with anti-vibe mounts comes standard on the DS 450 X xc and the DS 450 X mx. This gives the racer a better feel for the ATV while in an attacking stance out on the course. There is no need to buy an aftermarket stem to be competitive. Mounted to the steering stem is an aluminum 6061-T6 taper-profile handlebar with square racing pad.
